Prickley Pear Monday Mother's Day Inspiration

Happy Monday!  It's time for more Prickley Pear inspiration and this week I'm sharing a quick Mother's Day card!

This card uses the Vases clear stamp set, one with multiple options for flower and vase combinations!

I stamped the vase on Brushed Silver (SU) cardstock using purple ink and the flower on white cardstock, coloring it with a Copic marker.  Both were fussy cut and then some shimmer was added using Heidi Swapp Color Shine sprays.  I lined up the images and popped them up on the main, layered panel using foam dots.  The sentiment is from the Spring Scalloped Circles clear set.

CASology #80: Purple

It's time to think in color!  This week's cue word challenge over at CASology is PURPLE!  I wonder if you like this color?  My mother sure does and she was the inspiration for my card this time around!

Stamps:  Prickley Pear (Spring Scalloped Circles - sentiment)

I used an SU heart trio punch to create a mask for the hearts.  So simple!  I inked the three hearts in three different shades of purple, although, the smallest heart looks like more of a greyish purple to me!  Ah, well.  I found a simple sentiment to accompany the hearts and will send this card off to my mother this week!

Another day of no school today due to the extreme cold!  We had an enjoyable day at home yesterday and today should be more of the same!  DD is turning 6 months old, so I should probably dig the camera out again and see if I can't get a few photos taken for the occasion!  All four kids humored me yesterday while I took a Valentine's Day photo of them.  I got some valentine photo cards ordered and now will impatiently wait for them!  Isn't that how it always goes?!

Mother of Mondays

Today is going to be a Monday filled with unpacking from a long weekend away from home.  We spent a few days at our annual church convention and always come away feeling so encouraged, rested and renewed.  So thankful for peace within that keeps a person settled when peace around us in the world is so shattered.

I created a card for this week's color challenge over on the Clean & Simple Challenge at Splitcoast Stampers.  We are to use hot pink, gray, navy and white.

Stamps:  Uniko Studio, AMuse (Chevrons), Paper Trey (sentiment)
Paper:  Paper Trey cardstock (white)
Ink:  SU (Melon Mambo, Midnight Muse, Smoky Slate)
Accessories:  pink gemstones, flower & leaf dies (Uniko), foam dots

I envisioned a big, pink flower and went from there.  I just love this set from Uniko Studio!  The chrysanthemum is so pretty!  I used the flower and leaf dies and layered the cut images over the chevron stripes.  This would be a good Mother's Day card, but I may just use it before then as a little happy mail!

It's on to preparing for upcoming weekend company.  DH's parents are coming up to see DD for the first time!  It's their only granddaughter, so this will be extra special!  Can't wait to see them and introduce them to her!  The boys are pretty excited and will be counting down the school days until they come!  First, however, I need to unpack suitcases and tackle Mt. Washmore!

Mum's the Word

No, this week's CASology cue word is not a secret!

I just couldn't resist...

I don't typically use the word "mum" when referring to my own mother.  Even though I did live in New Zealand for a couple years growing up, I didn't seem to bring any English expressions back with me.  The accent, yes, but only for a short while and then my American roots took over again.

Stamps:  CTMH (Bohemian Alphabet)

I used an alphabet stamp set from CTMH to create this simple card.  The letters were stamped, cut out and then popped up with foam dots for dimension.  I created the little gemstone flower using gemstone hearts and a tiny circle gemstone.

Mother's Day

"If at first you don't succeed; do it the way your mother told you to."

Mother's Day is just around the corner and I decided that, this year, I was going to have my cards made and ready to go in the mail ahead of time!  Well, they are ready...just two days early (I need to mail them.)!

My own mother has always lived life rather simply.  She's not given to show or competitive in nature.  She's never felt the need to "keep up with the Jones."  She has always been a quiet, steady example to us and, despite her secret struggles in life, we have always felt nurtured, loved and secure.  Now that I'm a mother, sometimes I wonder how she kept it all together so well with four of us to look after!

With my card for today, I used a simple card design and chose a delicate butterfly as the main image!  I had to use purple since that's Mom's favorite color.

Now I'm off to run errands and enjoy the beautiful sunshine that's to be ours today!

Memories

Today is a special day.  It was my grandmother's birthday.  She passed away about a year ago and the memories live on.  If I had to choose one word to describe her it would be "Peacemaker."  I won't forget her twinkling eyes, her laugh and her wonderful smile.  I made this card thinking of my own mother today as it was her mother that we lost.
