A Happy Halloween & a Colour Q Challenge

10.31.2014

Happy Halloween!  Things were pretty exciting in our household today.  School Halloween parties and then home to get a quick bite to eat for supper before heading off to trick-or treat!  The boys had been anticipating today for a few weeks.  DD was pretty much clueless about what day it was, but quickly caught on to the trick-or-treating process!  I let them wear their costumes a day or two early so I could get some photos taken before the madness of Halloween night.

We had a zebra in the house.  DS3 loves zebras and after looking through our tote of previously worn costumes, we didn't find much that he was all that enthused about.  The boys have been such good sports over the years wearing and re-wearing costumes.  This year, I went ahead and purchased a new one for DS3 as I know he will wear it many, many times after Halloween is done!  He loves to dress up!  Last year, we had Tigger living with us for most of the winter months!

DS2 claimed a previously worn skeleton costume out of the costume tote, so that was easy.

DS1 opted for a historical figure this year, George Washington.  He's not quite as enthused about dressing up, it seems, but still plenty enthused about the candy.

Given that DD adores owls, I was thrilled when I happened upon an owl costume in her size!  When I put it on her and showed her in the mirror, she was all smiles!

I had to make one last Halloween card.  Sad to think the spooky stamp collections will now be laid to rest, only to be resurrected next fall!

I stamped the owl in purple and added orange to the polka dots with a marker.  I colored the leaves and grass with green.  The spider is embellished with black Stickles and I added a little sparkle to the spider web with my Wink of Stella brush marker.  Two black gemstones were used on the owl's eyes.

I am entering this card into Colour Q's current challenge.  Such fun colors that coordinate with Halloween!

I hope you had a fun Halloween!  Now it's on to Thanksgiving planning!

Prickley Pear Monday Inspiration

10.27.2014

It's Monday and that means it's time for a little Prickley Pear inspiration!

Since Halloween is coming up at the end of this week, I thought I'd make another bat themed card using one of the two Bats clear stamp sets!

I used the fantastic Birch Tree Window die to create the tree silhouettes.  Googly eyes were added and the simple sentiment was stamped on the far right tree.  I stamped one of the smaller bat images in three different colors of ink and then applied a thin layer of sparkle to each one using my clear Wink of Stella brush maker.  The bats were fussy cut and popped up with foam dots for dimension.

Be sure and check out the Prickley Pear blog for more inspiration!

Have a marvelous Monday!

Precious Remembrance Halloween Inspiration Hop!

10.26.2014

We're having a Halloween treat inspiration blog hop at Precious Remembrance Shop today!  To make things extra fun, we're making Halloween treat boxes, bags or baskets using the newest stamp set, Beware!

Beware Stamp Set

I couldn't resist making a cute little box.  It started out as just a black box, but by the time I was done, it ended up looking like this (I just couldn't help myself!)...

The big "BOO" is chipboard letters I found while digging in my endless stash of long forgotten crafty things.  What a find, huh?!  I sprayed down the box itself with purple and green Heidi Swapp Color Shine sprays, a current favorite of mine.  I love how it brought out the texture of the cardstock even more!  I used the "trick or treat" border stamp and the "October 31" circle to create the message on the lower portion of the box.  The polka dot ribbon was folded and stapled to the circle using a green staple and the combination was popped up with a foam dot.  The boys currently have a stash of varying sizes of googly eyes and I had to use the biggest ones to add a little character to the box!

For the inside, I used a chevron treat sack from a pack that's been patiently waiting to be used for quite a while now.

I attached two more cute circle images to the bag so that when the recipient pulls it out of the box, they get an extra little dose of Halloween!  The green hair was created using what I call my "grass scissors."  Hopefully you know what I'm talking about because I really do not know their official name!  I attached the hair to the back of the bag with some double sided tape and stamped the "open if you dare" border sentiment on the folded over flap.  The boys and I plan to use this little treat box for a "You've Been Boo-ed" type of greeting this week!  So fun!

Flying By with Prickley Pear

10.20.2014

Happy Monday!  It's time for some Halloween inspiration from Prickley Pear Rubber Stamps!

PPRS Design Team Member

I used the Bats clear set to whip up a clean and simple Halloween card.

Kraft cardstock seems to be calling my name lately and I found myself creating yet another kraft based design!

I stamped three small bats in black ink and cut them out.  Then, I applied a little glitter with a Wink of Stella brush marker.  After this was dry, the bats were mounted on the main panel using foam dots.  The sentiment was stamped in black ink before mounting the center panel on black glitter cardstock.  Once mounted, the layered piece was attached to the card base using foam dots.  This is such a simple Halloween greeting!  I found myself considering making some miniature greeting cards for the boys' classes this week.  The bats in this set could definitely be used for some little boy cards!  There is a coordinating bat die for this set here.

We had a busy weekend.  DH is working on installing the countertops in the new craft room!  Things are starting to come together and I'm trying really hard to be patient!  Little by little...  Leaves continue to fall and raking activities have begun.

I hope you had a great weekend!  Have a marvelous Monday!

Trick or Treat

10.16.2014

It's a beautiful autumn day here today and I find myself hoping that this kind of weather will continue until the kids have finished their annual trick-or-treating!  Some years we have beautiful weather and other years, the kids might as well dress up as themselves because their costumes are covered with heavy coats, hats and mittens!

With trick-or-treating on the mind, I created a Halloween themed card to share for the current Mama Elephant challenge:  Anything Goes.

I just love the adorable Bootastic set!  This little mummy is heading off to town for a little candy collecting.  His friend, Spider, wanted to tag along.  Both images were stamped and popped up with foam dots.  I used a Creative Cuts die to create the rolling hills and the Cityscape die to cut two separate layered images for the city scene before popping them up with foam dots.  I added three gold star sequins to finish off the design.

Now it's off to enjoy a glorious autumn evening!  After a few days of grey, the sunshine is very welcome!

Have a terrific Tuesday (evening)!

A World Smile Day Boo! & Announcement!

10.03.2014

Yep! I'm still here. Just having a flurry of activity on the home front as the week comes to a close!

It's World Smile Day today and, while I really wanted to make a card with this theme, I just don't have extra time to spare this week!  I figured I'd share a cute little Halloween card that's been staring at me from the counter, patiently waiting to make it's debut here on the blog.  I think it's smile worthy?!

Stamps:  Endless Creations (KB's Ghost, Halloween Fun Cube - sentiment)
The ghosts and sentiment are from Endless Creations, a fun online stamp company!  I met the owner in person last year!  They have some great Halloween stamps for this time of year, so you'll have to go check out their store!

I sprayed the ghosts with my favorite spritz sprays, Heidi Swapp Color Shine, to give them a little eerie sheen.  Then, I popped them up with some foam dots for dimension and added three black sequins for good measure.

On another note, I have some exciting news to share with you!  I am joining the Prickley Pear Rubber Stamps design team for their next term, starting this month!  I designed for them back in 2011/2012 and am excited to be back!  I can't wait to showcase their high quality, beautiful stamps again!

PPRS Blog

Halloween is just around the corner and I haven't even started figuring out costumes for the kids!  We'll have to dig through our tote of Halloween fun and see if there are some things that can be reused!

Lots to do yet today, so off I go!  I hope you've had a great week!

Enjoy your weekend!

Precious Remembrance Halloween New Release Blog Hop!

9.23.2014

Are you ready for some more new release fun?! Today, Precious Remembrance Shop is releasing a brand new Halloween set called Beware and, to celebrate, we're having a little blog hop...with a prize, of course!

http://www.preciousremembranceshop.com/shop/index.php?route=product/product&path=25_94&product_id=128

To win, just be sure and do the following:
One lucky winner will be chosen randomly to win the new set!  The giveaway ends Friday, September 26, 2014.

For my first card, I stenciled a chevron pattern on a panel of white cardstock.  I first sponged a little black ink over the stencil and then sprayed green Heidi Swapp Iridescent Spritz over it to add some Halloween color and shine.  After this was dry, I stamped the trick or treat border stamp across the panel.  I stamped the October 31 circle and used my 1-inch circle punch to cut it out before popping it up with a foam dot.  I added a touch of sparkle to the edges & sentiment of the circle using my Wink of Stella brush marker.  I then mounted the main panel on a piece of black cardstock and popped up the layered piece with foam dots on the card base.

For my second card, I had those cute little lollipops on my mind that the kids bring home every year from their school Halloween celebrations!  I stamped the upper and lower borders using border stamps from the set.  I used the jack-o-lantern circle to create the lollipops in three different colors and used the dotted border stamp to create the sticks, masking over the trick or treat border image I'd previously stamped!

There are so many possibilities for this set, don't you think?!  I know you really want to win it, so you'd better get hopping if you haven't already started!  Here is the blog hop list if you'd like to make sure you get to each stop:

Monster Party

10.25.2013

We're into our second no school day!  It's school conference week, so we had DS1 & DS2's conferences Wednesday afternoon and now we get to enjoy two full days of home goodness!  We've been baking, crafting and will be carving our jack-o-lantern and roasting pumpkin seeds this afternoon!  It's a beautiful, sunny day and I'm sighing a contented sigh right now.

While playing in the craft room with the boys, I came up with a fun little card for the Sweet Stamp Shop's Use What You Have Challenge #20.  We are to use our stamps in creative ways this week!

I started out using the Fall Gratitude set.  The tree tops and limbs were used to create the monsters, and googly eyes were added from my stash of embellishments (see photo below).  The finished creatures were popped up with foam dots for dimension.  Gold star sequins were then added along with lots of fun shapes from the Starts Here set.  The sentiment is from the Cityscape set.  To finish things up, I added a tiny dot of Stickles to the center of the hexagons and stars.  These monsters are really having fun!!!

Here's a portion of my embellishment stash:

I keep different shapes and clear gemstones in this drawer and the rest I have organized by color in these ClosetMaid bins:

DS1 (a.k.a. Chef BOY-ardee) says lunch is ready (homemade pizza!), so off I go!  We hope to go soak up a little sunshine this afternoon and grab some crisp autumn air!

Have a fabulous Friday!

Black Tie Duo

10.20.2012

It's time for a change of color!  A new color duo is up over at Dynamic Duos and, this week, it's a Black Tie combination!

It's Basic Black + Pumpkin Pie and a dessert option of Die Cuts!

Stamps:  Prickley Pear
I used stamps and a bat die from Prickley Pear to create a clean and simple Halloween card.  The circle was cut using a Nestabilities die.  I popped up the bat with foam dots to add a little dimension and some orange gemstones for a little shine.  Nothing extravagant.  Just my usual simple design.

A Simple Haunting

10.16.2012

After a three-day weekend, I'm trying to get back into the daily routines!  Yesterday, I was catching up on things around here and didn't take any time to stamp!  Gasp!

However, I'd made a card over the weekend for today's new cue word challenge over at CASology and it's time to share!

Soon little trick-or-treaters will be heading out into the night to collect their candy and I couldn't help but think of Halloween!  A simple ghost seemed appropriate for a CAS card and here is what I came up with:

The ghost and sentiment are both from a newer stamp set at Paper Trey.  I couldn't help but add some more eyes to go along with the one-eyed ghost!  I added a simple sentiment strip and a baker's twine bow to finish things off.  Did I ever tell you I love CAS cards?!

Be sure to visit the rest of the design team's blogs as well as Amy Kolling, our guest designer this week!

I hope your week is off to a good start!  I have computer training tomorrow for work, so a busy day is in store!  Electronic charting can be a challenge to get started in a medical setting, so wish me luck!

Have a terrific Tuesday!

2 Cute Ghostly Greetings

10.12.2012

It's a Fun Friday here at our house and the boys and I are doing some crafty things together this morning before we head out for some pizza in town.  I love the relaxed atmosphere of no school days!  No dragging sleepyheads out of beds and rushing to the bus!  Just good ole easing into the day and enjoying each other's company!

I decided to create a card for 2 Cute Ink's sketch challenge that ends shortly!  I'm going to be getting this posted just under the wire!  Love the cute images Heidi sketches!  She's got new ones coming quite regularly too, so be sure and take a peek now and then on the 2 Cute Ink blog!

Stamps:  2 Cute Ink (Ghostie Sucker), Paper Trey (sentiment)
I added some Crystal Effects to Ghostie's sucker and popped him up after cutting him out!  There are actually two colors behind the black panel, but I wanted to keep them thin and subtle.

Here is the sketch:

Now it's off for more Friday fun!  I'll be back tomorrow for a new color challenge at Dynamic Duos!

Have a fabulous Friday!
